Peppers
This years' growing experience had a bit of a rough start. I had about 6 plants of Paprika peppers that I had started from seed. The intent was to grow, dehydrate, and run them through the ol' coffee mill (which is only used for spices). I am not sure if any made it, and having planted a bunch of different types of peppers, and also not having labeled them, we're just going to have to wait until the grow to see what happens!
To the right is a bottle of hotsauce that I made. This was my first experiment and was made with homegrown Super F1 Hybrid Chiles. Of course, I didn't wear gloves when chopping and seeding (I use a food processor now) and I burned my hand pretty good. One giant sleepless night of feeling like I plunged my hand in boiling water. "Hunan Hand"...not fun.
Last year was a a hotter hot sauce with a mix of habeneros, hot salsa peppers, and one or two Marconi peppers to balance it out (and use up my harvest). A better sauce, and hotter. Plus, I wore gloves this time (just cutting the habeneros to seed them made me realize that it was best not to revisit the pain. |
